Scenic Route

If you are travelling on a Saturday in Peak Season, you might wish to consider the alternate scenic route shown below which avoids the Newton Abbot to Torquay road. This can sometimes save you considerable time and is much more pleasant!

1. After M5 services, Exeter, travel to the end of the motorway (3.5 miles)

2. Carry on straight ahead into the A38, direction PLYMOUTH (A38), TORQUAY for a further 2.8 miles

3. Take left hand lane A380 signposted TORQUAY.

4. After ascending Telegraph Hill 0.6 miles, travel for 2.73 miles to Ashcombe Cross and take the B3192 signposted TEIGNMOUTH, SHALDON, travel for 5 miles.

5. At bottom of long hill, at first set of traffic lights, turn right onto A379 Torquay.

6. After 0.4 miles, at traffic lights take a left turn over the river on the Shaldon Bridge (still A379) to Torquay.

7. Follow the winding coast road to Torquay.

8. After 5.2 miles, at mini roundabout take first exit marked A379 St Marychurch, Babbacombe, Harbour, Seafront.

9. At second mini-roundabout, take second exit straight on towards St Marychurch. The Model Village will appear on your left. Road forks left after first traffic lights.

10. At second set of traffic lights continue straight on to Babbacombe Road. Keep on the Babbacombe Road for 2.8 miles, which will shortly lead downwards.

11. When you can see the harbour at the bottom of the hill, pass the AMF Bowling Alley on your left, turn first left at the traffic lights, signposted ‘Little Theatre, Car Park, Daddyhole Plain, Meadfoot Beach’. (If you overshoot and reach the clocktower at the harbour, drive around the clocktower and go back up the hill to turn first right at traffic lights.)

12. Immediately, Meadfoot Road is in front of you and The Beulah Apartments are 100 metres up, on the right-hand side.
